This year, Volunteers of the Ocean City Fire Department have established a traditional memorial ceremony built around the theme, “We Vowed Never to Forget”, 20th Anniversary- September 11th Memorial Ceremony. These events are driven by this message. A day of remembrance for all that serve, or that have served in public safety, and their families, and to help the public to remember the events of September 11th, 2001, and all that lost their life on this date, and since, as a direct result of this tragedy. The invitation for the Saturday, September 11th event is being extended to the “Lower Eastern Shore Region”, fire departments in Worcester County, Wicomico County, lower Sussex County, and the residents and guests of Ocean City.
The iconic twin beams of light, that first appeared on one of the early anniversaries of September 11th, in New York City is known worldwide. For the first time here in Ocean City we will be shining our own “Remembrance Beams of Light” into the night sky across our bay to be seen for miles. This Mid-Island preview lighting and fundraising event at Seacrets, will be coordinated by Volunteers of the OCFD and OCVFC Ladies Auxiliary. This will mark the beginning of our multi-night tribute, and to raise money to “Keep the Lights Burning for Years to Come…”Donations will be accepted in front of the Main Entrance to Seacrets, located at 117 49th, Street, Ocean City, and in the parking lot area of Atlantic Beverage Center at 5001 Coastal Highway, next to the North Beam.
